About Us
Fresh Opportunities is an organization dedicated to reducing food waste and feeding the food insecure.
We empower students to take action against food waste at their schools.
We provide students with the physical resources and network of drop off locations to redistribute their school’s leftover lunch on their way home.
Fresh Opportunities was started when an NYC high school noticed her school was throwing out its leftover lunch at the end of the day. At the same time, everyday on her commute home, she would see food insecure individuals on the street.
She searched the internet for a solution to her problem but couldn't find any organizations that worked with high school students to fight hunger in their communities.
And that is how the idea for Fresh Opportunities was born. She started packaging food at her school and delivering meals with her friends. The club at her school kept on growing and more and more students wanted to get involved and help their mission of fighting hunger in NYC.
She started talking with friends in schools across NYC and realized that her school wasn't the only one throwing out perfectly good food. So she began working with students across NYC to start chapters of Fresh Opportunities at their schools. She connected students in high schools with local community fridges to drop food off and provide students with all the packaging supplies they needed for FREE!
You are never too young to start taking action and make a difference at your school or in your community.
